About Basilwizi
Basilwizi is a non-profit advocacy and community
development organisation formed in 2000 in response to
the expressed needs of the Tonga and Korekore
people.
The
organisation's head office is located in the medium
density suburbs of Bulawayo, the second largest city of
Zimbabwe. Our projects aim to assist the Zambezi Valley
rural communities in 4 districts named below in Zimbabwe
who were relocated (and continue to live to this date in
the valley) to improve the quality of their lives. The
projects being implemented include:
- Health - HIV & AIDS
- Education
- Community Development Projects
- Gender and Development
We provide the above mentioned project activities in
four districts of Zimbabwe, namely:
- Binga
- Gokwe North
- Hwange East
- Nyaminyami
Basilwizi's strength is it board and staff; most of
them also from the affected districts and also that the
establishment of Basilwizi was an expressed need by the
Tonga and Korekore people themselves. We also work in
close partnership with International Agencies such as NAWISA,IRN,
UNDP and RFL, Private Voluntary Organisations
(PVO) or Indigenous Organisations such as Binga Craft
Centre, The BaTonga Museum and Silveira House.
Private Sector and Donor organisations such as HIVOS,
GGF and MS Zimbabwe that work with related to
large dam projects and development projects. Basilwizi
will continue to expand current programmes with funding
being made available, and where there is a felt need,
develop new ones in line with its vision and objectives.
